Picture Elements is a painted series that explores colour, whimsy, and nostalgia. My process is to make whimsical digital collages from pixel art video games. I rearrange the assets and alter them to create new and fun scenarios for the familiar characters, objects and backgrounds. These collages are then painted on a hand-gridded surface, using the digital piece as a pattern. As a creator I value time-consuming, handmade processes. This series is an attempt to combine my love of the handmade, and the aesthetic and nostalgia of the digital. For me, these pieces bring to life the joys of childhood and evoke cheerful memories of wasted time.
